Eight years ago on November 23rd, 2004, Blizzard’s MMORPG behemoth went live. As with just about any Blizzard game, World of Warcraft steamrolled in and obliterated all the competition. Prior to its release, I remember thinking that if Blizzard makes an online RPG it’ll be huge. And it still is.
To this day WOW’s going strong but it has it’s share of ups and downs. In August of 2012, Blizzard reported a loss of over 1 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2012. On a positive note, The Mists of Pandaria expansion brought them back to over 10 million. Jesus, that’s a lot of people.
In celebration of the anniversary, Blizzard says that “players who log in to World of Warcraft between November 18 and December 1st will automatically get a unique Feat of Strength achievement and Celebration Package item.
Using the item with shoot off fireworks, apply a cosmetic change and grant an 8% bonus to experience and reputation gains while active. Sweet.
