Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – Like Totally Radical

On April 1st, Ubisoft announced a complete overhaul, stand-alone expansion for Far Cry 3 called Blood Dragon and it bears no semblance to the Far Cry series. It’s an 80’s retro-vision of the future complete with synthesizers, neon lasers, Chrome lettering and cyberspace grids. As the plot goes, you play Sergeant Rex Power Colt — voiced by Michael Biehn, the good guy from Terminator — who has to save the world from a cyborg army called Omega Force. Oh yeah, and there are giant Blood Dragons that shoot lasers from their eyes. Seriously.

Ubisoft has done a phenomenal job at promoting this game and capturing 80’s gaming and horrible sci-fi movies. Duke Nukem would feel right at home. The trailers include such gems as old vcr recordings complete with tracking problems, pixelated NES-style cutscenes, retro cartoons with bad animations and over-the-top live action movie parodies. Even the website has a cringe-worthy early 90’s design with animated gifs and an obnoxious background. Here are the vids below:

A B-rated, live action trailer for the game was recently released that’s actually awesome. It’s cheesy, overacted, violent and straight out of USA Up All Night with Rhonda Shear:

Here’s another video that features a Saturday morning 80’s-style cartoon and actual in-game footage:
