Dead Island: Riptide – WTF is with the Tasteless Statue?

Oh Deep Silver… What the hell were you thinking? I can only hope this is a publicity stunt. I can’t fathom how something so blatantly offensive got through production otherwise.

The European “Zombie Bait Edition” of Dead Island: Riptide features a 12″, bikini-clad statuette of a dismembered woman’s torso. The entire thing is covered in gore except for the absurdly rotund breasts that happen to be barely scathed. Evidentially zombies can be quite selective.

What’s a good way to push sales? How about combining the objectification of women and violence against women into one horrid little sexualized promo. Good job jackasses.

A prepared statement from Deep Silver’s sales and marketing director Paul Nicholls states, “We wanted to provide a unique collector’s edition that was utterly Dead Island and would make a striking conversation piece on any discerning zombie gamer’s mantel.”

Sure, that’s a great idea. Especially if you like conversations that start with “What the hell’s wrong with you” and “You sick little perv”.

Deep Silver has already issued an apology, big surprise… Whether or not they’ll pull this edition of the game is another story.

Normally, I’ll promote a game’s link at the end of an article. I’ll have to pass this time.
