Haunts: The Manse Macabre, a promising turn-based horror game by Mob Rules Games is unfortunately on its deathbed. Originally due around Halloween, the team behind Haunts encountered some financial troubles (they ran out of money) and the programmers moved on to full time jobs, leaving the game incomplete, programmer-less and with no funds left to finish it.
This creates a bit of a situation for the remaining guys at Mob Rules who have a 1,200-plus backer base that invested over $28,000. They are in talks with Blue Mammoth Games who may pick up the project and finish it but that’s a daunting task for any development company when over 1,000 copies of the game have already been promised to people who have invested in it.
The lead guy, Rick Dakan promised to refund any disgruntled contributors out of his own pocket should they decide to jump ship. Hopefully the game will pull through. Kickstarter is a great way to give indie games a chance but situations like this illustrate the risks involved.
