This guy JunkBoy created a bunch of graphic concepts of what today’s games would look like if they existed in the golden age of gaming.
The best working conversion I’ve seen so far is a DeMake of Team Fortress 2 called Gang Garrison 2. Originally made for the 2008 TIGSource.com ‘Bootleg Demake’ competition, Gang Garrison2, a free to play 8-bit version of Team Fortress that’s amazingly fun. It sports all the characters from the game converted into a 2d platformer style game. Multi-player is built in and easy to use so you can frag the pixels out living opponents instead of dopey bots.
Get it here, I highly recommend it.

Here’s a little background, Team Fortress 2 is one of my all time favorites. It was released in 2007 and its one of the few games that I still play to this day.
Nine unique player classes each with their own style of play, a variety of modes and a ton of weapons creates a massive amount of replay value. Check out their wiki to see what I’m talking about: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/
Team Fortress 2 is also now free-to-play too and can be downloaded here:
